Should You Upgrade from iPhone 7 to iPhone 11? A Decision Calculator

When the iPhone 7 first came out, it was easily among the best smartphones in the market. Fast forward to 2019, the phone is three years old and its time you replace it. Wondering if you should upgrade to the iPhone 11 or not from your iPhone 7? Read our decision calculator to find out.

If you have the budget, you should ideally look to upgrade to the iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max. However, not everyone can afford a $1,000+ smartphone and the $699 iPhone 11 is more than good enough for most consumers out there. So, if you upgrade to the iPhone 11 from the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, what improvements are you looking at? Is this upgrade worth it? Read our decision calculator to find out.
iPhone 7 to iPhone 11 – Upgrade or Not?
Design and Display

The iPhone 7 features a unibody aluminum design, Touch ID, and a 4.7-inch or a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display. In comparison, the iPhone 11 features a design that’s toned down from the more expensive iPhone 11 Pro. While it misses out on the stainless steel chassis, it comes with an aluminum frame sandwiched by the world’s most durable glass at the front and back. And since the iPhone 11 features Face ID, it has a notch and minimal bezels.

The smaller bezels and the lack of Touch ID mean the iPhone 11 packs a bigger 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display in a body that’s no bigger than the iPhone 7 Plus. The Liquid Retina display on the iPhone 11 is better than the one found on the iPhone 7 series in every way barring one. While the iPhone 7 Plus features a Full HD resolution, the iPhone 11 despite coming with a bigger 6.1-inch display features an HD+ resolution (1792 x 828). However, for daily use, most users will not be able to tell the difference in resolution between the two devices. Also Read:Download video from JW Player-Tested 4 Methods

The glass body of the iPhone 11 also means that it supports wireless charging which the iPhone 7 lacks. As for Touch ID vs Face ID, while many people will prefer Touch ID, the latter is definitely more convenient to use.

Performance

The A10 Fusion chip inside the iPhone 7 was a monster when it first debuted. While it is still holding up pretty well, the A13 Bionic chip inside the iPhone 11 is in a different league altogether. Not only is it substantially more powerful, but it is also more power-efficient. It is, in fact, the fastest CPU and GPU you will find inside a smartphone right now.

For day to day use, the iPhone 7 might work just fine but it does tend to struggle when running heavy games like PUBG and Asphalt 9. The iPhone 11 also comes with more RAM (4GB) which means it will perform better than the iPhone 7 in multitasking as well.

For power users, the jump from the iPhone 7 to the iPhone 11 definitely makes a lot of sense from the performance viewpoint.

Camera

It is not just the display, design, and performance in which the iPhone 11 is a major step up from the iPhone 7. The same also stands true for the iPhone 11 as well. If you use your iPhone’s camera a lot, just upgrade to the iPhone 7. The jump in image quality is massive and will be immediately noticeable, especially in low-light scenarios.

Don’t be fooled by looking at the spec sheet of the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 11 and thinking they come with the same camera setup. While the iPhone 11 comes with a 12MP primary shooter as well, its sensor and image quality is vastly superior to the iPhone 7.

Compared to the iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone 11 does miss out on a 2x telephoto sensor. Instead, it comes with a 12MP ultra-wide angle sensor which in my opinion is going to be more useful in daily life. Plus, apart from Portrait photos, the telephoto sensor on the iPhone 7 Plus was not really that useful.

The video recording capabilities of the iPhone 11 is also noticeably better than the iPhone 7. While both phones can record 4K videos, the quality of videos shot on the iPhone 11 is better with higher dynamic range and better stabilization.

The front camera on the iPhone 11 is also a notable step up from the iPhone 7’s 7MP FaceTime HD camera. Not only does it have a higher 12MP resolution, but it also has a slightly wider field of view. The latter will allow you to fit a wee bit more people in your selfies. The iPhone 11’s front camera can also record 4K videos as well as ‘slofies’ a.k.a slow-mo videos. If you are a content creator or just use the camera on your iPhone 7 a lot, the improved camera system is going to be a key reason to upgrade to the iPhone 11.
Connectivity

Another area where the iPhone 11 brings so many new things to the table and makes the iPhone 7 looks awfully dated. The iPhone 11 features Gigabit LTE modem along with 2×2 MIMO. It might not pack 4×4 MIMO like its more expensive iPhone 11 Pro sibling, but you are still going to notice better network reception and data speeds on the device.

The iPhone 11 also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC with Reader mode, and Apple’s new Ultra Wideband chip that offers a unique AirDrop experience, and more.

You might think that the iPhone 7 also features Wi-Fi, 4G, and Bluetooth, but these standards have evolved a lot since then.

Battery Life

Back when the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were announced, most people who wanted better battery life ended up going for the latter. Three years later, the iPhone 11 changes the game completely with its amazing battery life. The phone can easily last for 24 hours on a single charge with moderate to heavy use. Last year’s iPhone XR was already known for its all-day battery life and Apple has managed to improve it by an hour on the iPhone 11 this year.

The only disappointing thing here is that the iPhone 11 continues to feature the same 5W charger as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. It does come with 18W fast charging support but one will have to buy the charger separately. The iPhone 11 also supports wireless charging which means topping the phone’s battery is very convenient if you get around to placing a wireless charger on your desk.
Price

Despite offering more than what the iPhone 7/Plus offers, the iPhone 11 is actually cheaper than it. The iPhone 7 Plus carried an MSRP of $769 when it first launched. In comparison, the iPhone 11 starts from $699. If your iPhone 7 is in mint condition, you can easily sell it for around $150 which would mean you will only have to pay around $550 for the iPhone 11 from your pocket.

As an existing iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus owner, what are your thoughts on the iPhone 11? Do you plan to upgrade to it? Or are you looking to buy the more expensive iPhone 11 Pro? Drop a comment and let us know!Tips:

iPhone 11 Will Launch in New Green Color, Drop iPhone Logo at Rear, Lack 3D Touch

As the iPhone 11 launch nears, so are the rumors surrounding the device. We are now going to hear a lot of rumors which would be baseless, outlandish in nature, or come from unverified sources. Today’s leak comes from an alleged Foxconn factory worker who has revealed quite a bit about the upcoming iPhone 11.

As per the Foxconn factory worker, the iPhone 11 will come in four colors. Apart from the three colors that Apple already offers, there will also be a fourth new dark green color which would be the best of the lot. The back glass on the iPhone 11 series will have a matte texture. As per the leaker, Apple will also drop the “iPhone” logo from the rear glass, though the Apple logo will remain intact.

The factory worker also claims that Apple will continue to ship a 1A/5v charger with the new iPhones. He also claims that the iPhone 11 Max will come with a 3969mAh battery which if true would be a massive jump in size from the 3,174mAh battery of the iPhone XS Max. There have been rumors of the iPhone 11 series coming with bigger batteries to make up for the reverse wireless charging feature.

The leaker also claims that Apple has improved the 12MP rear camera on the new iPhones. Apple has been lagging behind in the camera department compared to the likes of Huawei and Google so this would be a much-needed improvement. Disappointingly, if the leaker is to be believed, Apple will continue to offer the iPhone 11 series in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB storage variants.

While there were rumors of Apple updating the TrueDepth camera system on the iPhone 11 series, the leaker claims that the part numbers for them seem to be the same as the iPhone XS signaling no updates.

Other claims made in the leak include no 3D Touch on the new iPhones which would reduce the screen thickness, no in-screen fingerprint scanner, Lighting connector, and a double-layer motherboard.

Lastly, the leaker says that Apple will announce the 10.2-inch iPad later this year and it will replace the 2018 9.7-inch iPad. An iPad Pro update is also in the pipeline, though it would be announced later in the year. We have heard rumors of Apple working on a 10.2-inch iPad so this rumor definitely sounds plausible.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 11 on September 10.
Our Take

Some of the claims made in this leak definitely sound plausible. The bigger battery, improved rear camera, and the new green color definitely sound like they are happening, though the missing ‘iPhone’ logo from the rear panel sounds a bit far-fetched. It is possible that the dummy units lacked the iPhone logo and the Foxconn worker’s assumptions are based on that.

Kuo: 2021 iPhone Could Feature Both Under-Display Touch ID and Face ID

After ditching Touch ID with the iPhone X in 2017, Apple is possibly looking at bringing back the sensor with its 2021 iPhones. Reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that the 2021 iPhone will feature both Face ID and an under-display fingerprint scanner.

Apple is currently facing a lot of technical issues in getting both under-display Touch ID and Face ID to work together. However, he is optimistic that most of these issues would be resolved by the time the 2021 iPhone nears its launch.

Some of the issues with the under-display Touch ID sensor include poor yield rates, size of the recognition area, power consumption, and more. Apple will implement under-display Touch ID and Face ID in such a way on its 2021 iPhones that they work together and offer a high-quality experience for which the company usually strives for.

Right now, while many Android smartphones do come with an under-display fingerprint scanner and face unlock, the experience offered by them is not that good. Apple has likely set a higher bar for itself which is why it is taking its own sweet time in introducing an under-display fingerprint sensor to the iPhone lineup.

Apple has filed a number of patents regarding the under-display fingerprint scanner in recent times.

The analyst believes that Apple will likely rely on Qualcomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint scanner for its 2021 iPhone. Samsung currently is the only OEM which uses Qualcomm’s under-display fingerprint scanner on its flagship devices. Other OEMs rely on an optical fingerprint scanner which is faster but does not offer the same level of security.

Kuo also believes that if Apple ended up implementing any kind of biometric authentication on the Apple Watch, it would be in the form of an under-display fingerprint scanner instead of Face ID. Nonetheless, he does not make any claims whatsoever of Apple launching an Apple Watch with any kind of biometric security. This makes sense as well since biometric authentication on the Apple Watch would not really be useful.
Our Take

It is possible that Apple could use the under-display Touch ID sensor on the 2021 iPhones to reduce or completely eliminate the notch.

The TrueDepth camera system takes up a lot of space at the front which has prevented Apple from reducing the size of the notch. The company is rumored to reduce the size of the notch on its 2020 iPhones but not eliminate it fully.

What do you think about Apple adding an under-display fingerprint scanner along with Face ID to its 2021 iPhone? If you lost data after you updated to a new iPhone, you can always use Gihosoft iPhone Data Recovery to get the data back from the old iPhone or backup. You may also like: iphonerecovery.com

Facebook Sets Aside $3 Billion Ahead of FTC Fine Over Privacy Violations

Facebook isn’t typically described in a positive way when it comes to security or privacy. And the company has taken some big hits recently. In today’s quarterly earnings report, the social network has revealed it’s preparing for a huge fine for violations related to privacy.

Facebook today officially announced its latest quarterly earnings for the year 2019. According to Facebook’s data, it had a revenue of $15.08 billion for the quarter. However, in anticipation for an FTC fine for privacy violations, it has set aside a whopping $3 billion to cover the cost. Facebook is anticipating that the fine from the FTC will be between $3 billion and $5 billion.

Facebook notes that it’s possible the fine from FTC isn’t that high, and notes that the matter is still “unresolved” for now. However, it’s anticipating the huge amount and has set aside the money just in case.

“We estimate that the range of loss in this matter is $3.0 billion to $5.0 billion,” Facebook said in a statement. “The matter remains unresolved, and there can be no assurance as to the timing or the terms of any final outcome.”

Facebook says that things are going to change moving forward. As reported by CNBC, the CEO of the social network, Mark Zuckerberg, says that shifting to privacy will be a “central focus for the company” over the next five years “or longer”. Zuckerberg added that he doesn’t see the pivot to privacy to “be a real contributor to Facebook’s business” over the next couple of years.

Building from that, Facebook will be also putting a bigger focus on marketplace and payment features. The Facebook Marketplace is already a popular way for people to sell goods online. And Instagram is a burgeoning marketplace in its own right, thanks to so many influencers out there hawking products on a regular basis. With that in motion, Zuckerberg says that more companies will be handing over money for advertising on Facebook and Instagram.
Our Take

These could all be empty words from Zuckerberg. Unless something actually changes with the social network, and there isn’t such a huge focus on handing out user information, none of what Zuckerberg has planned, or says what’s planned, will actually matter. Here’s hoping it turns into something worthwhile, though.Sponsor ads:

What You Should Know Before Unlocking an iPhone?

What You Should Know Before Unlocking an iPhone?
What to Do before Unlocking?

Before unlocking any iPhone, first, confirm that this is not a stolen device. Because your unlocking efforts will prove futile; it won’t work. iPhones that are reported stolen will not work in North America. Also, make sure that there is no iCloud lock on this iPhone or Activation lock. If the iPhone is not stolen and not iCloud or Activation locked as well, then you can go ahead to perform whatever unlock operation on it.
Is It Legal to Unlock an iPhone?

It is not illegal to unlock an iPhone anywhere in the world. However, bear in mind that carrier would not want you to do that, especially if the iPhone in question is still under contract. Under-contract phones still belong to the carrier, until they are paid off completely. Also Read:Download Korean Drama for Free 2019 What is an Unlocked iPhone?

An unlocked iPhone is one that is not under any contract with a carrier or phone company. It is advisable to always go for unlocked iPhone, or turn to official iPhone unlock if you have a locked iPhone because you will be able to use them with any carrier for which you have a compatible service plan, and for frequent travelers, it is easy to switch carriers when on trips. iPhones that were tied to a carrier but paid off are also unlocked iPhones.
What Are the Advantages of Having an Unlocked iPhone?

As stated previously, the primary benefit is the flexibility to use any carrier you choose to use. Unlocked iPhones will work with any SIM card that is inserted into them. You can choose to use a carrier with a better deal and switch to another carrier later. Further, if you travel, with an unlocked iPhone, you can simply insert the SIM of a local carrier and use there instead of roaming which can be extremely expensive abroad.
Part 3: How to Unlock Your iPhone for Use with a Different Carrier

If your iPhone is locked to a specific carrier, you cannot use it with a different carrier. If you do wish to change carriers, you can contact your carrier. Here’s how to do this:

Confirm that your current carrier allows unlocking. If they don’t, it is impossible to unlock the iPhone.

If your carrier allows iPhone unlocking and they unlock it, proceed to take the following steps:

If you have a SIM card from the new carrier:

Remove the current SIM card and insert the SIM card of the new carrier.

Set up the iPhone.

If you don’t have another SIM card:

Make a backup of your iPhone

Erase the phone

Restore from the backup you created

If you are prompted with the message "The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported. Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visits a supported carrier store," follow these steps:

Restore the iPhone to factory settings.

Contact your carrier again to confirm if they have unlocked the iPhone.

Restore your iPhone from your backup.
